For many a Shenmue fanatic, the fact that Shenmue 3 [official site] is still actually happening is enough to overwhelm. By the time the third series entry lands next December, 16 years will have passed since the conclusion of the last, thus it’s had an inordinate amount of time to stew in the cauldron of cult status. Can it live up to the hype? Who knows, but the latest screens showcased at the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences (MAGIC) at the weekend suggest it might be on the right track. The RPG Scrollbars: Heroes. Don’t. Craft.

Few game mechanics right now make me ‘urrrrrrrrrrgh’ quite like crafting. Bloody, bloody crafting. I hate crafting. I hate that just about every game I pick up can’t wait to introduce its crafting system to me, with its long shopping lists of finnicky items to find, and about as much care for being believable as all those shotguns and medikits Lara Croft used to find littering ancient tombs. Crafting is the worst, and unlike something like the escort missions of old, it manages to be the worst regardless of how much…

13 Ways to Rethink the Foot of Your Bed — From the Archives: Greatest Hits

When designing your bedroom, don’t forget to address the foot of the bed. It’s up-front-and-center, prime real estate that gives you another opportunity to layer in function, pattern, shape and texture. Don’t miss the chance to do more with this seemingly small amount of space.

1. Lucy Call’s rustic bench (shown above) is a twist on a classic combo. It packs in tons of stored books that become beautifully sculptural as and beyond just functional objects.

Your wait for an Ultra HD Blu-ray player is almost over

Panasonic has confirmed the European release date for its UB900 Ultra HD disc spinner and it’s good news for AV fans.

The Daily Grind: Is MMORPG voiceover/voiceacting worth the cost?

Last week, Justin and I answered a podcast listener question about voiceover localization in MMORPGs, and I thought it dovetailed nicely with a question Massively OP reader loyheta sent us ages ago:

“Is voiceover/voiceacting worth the resources? For the price of Star Wars: The Old Republic’s VO budget, how much time and money could be focused on the world and additional content? How many text quests and how fleshed out can you make it and the quest compared to one voice acted quest? Do you guys feel that VOs are…

League of Legends S6 Yasuo Guide: Summoner Spells and Runes

Exhaust is another good option. The slow makes sure your opponent has no chance of running away due to your dash, and the 40% reduction in damage means that you duel them without taking much damage. However, with your dash your opponent should never be out of range most of the time, and if you’re planning on going all-in you shouldn’t be low on health to begin with.

Barrier is another option. The large shield goes well with your Flow shield, but as squishy as Yasuo already is you shouldn’t be going in a fight if you would…

Disney asks employees to pay for its lobbying

Disney stamp - Wikimedia CommonsMickey Mouse outfit Walt Disney has asked its employees to pay for its court cases to stop piracy and lobbying of politicians.

Disney has been getting stranger lately and has been asking its full-time employees to train cheap Chinese workers before firing them.  However this latest effort makes it a clear front runner for the Wal Mart award for American business.

Google Killed the Laptop Star

Anyone who went to business school recognizes the basic tenet that you use marketing to build demand in order to sell products. Through the 1990s, there was impressive marketing surrounding laptops — Intel’s iconic Bunny People come to mind. Apple aggressively marketed this class, as did Microsoft, and it seemed every other brand on TV was trying to convince us we needed a new PC.

PC marketing dropped off a cliff in the last decade, and when the iPad launched with a powerful Apple campaign it nearly took out the PC at…
